The Faculty of Engineering at the �������߿� of Moratuwa has emerged as a shining star at the Varsity Battles 2025, an inter-university quiz competition organized by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE).

In a remarkable demonstration of alumni commitment, the B.Sc. Engineering 80/84 batch of the �������߿� of Moratuwa has completed its 2025 CSR project, the full-scale renovation of the student study space popularly known as “Apaaya.” Originally a barely usable basement beneath the �������߿�’s main Library, Apaaya had evolved over the years into an ad-hoc study zone. The idea of the CSR project was to provide a space not just brick, walls and furniture but an environment where young minds can thrive, a space that encourages discipline, growth, and the pursuit of excellence. With a budget of Rs. 5.0 Mn, raised through donations from 77 alumni, the team delivered a comprehensive transformation:

The �������߿� of Moratuwa commenced its official duties for the New Year on January 1, 2025, in alignment with the National Programme "Clean Sri Lanka” launched by the Presidential Secretariat. The event began with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and remembering the war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. Following this the academic, administrative, and non-academic staff of the �������߿� took part in reading the “Clean Sri Lanka” pledge by joining the nationally broadcasted ceremony that symbolized the commitment of the �������߿� to service excellence in the year ahead.

Dr. Senaka Pilapitiya has been appointed the new Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the �������߿� of Moratuwa, starting December 31, 2024. He succeeds the founding Dean, Prof. F.R. Fernando, whose visionary leadership set the stage for excellence in medical education; paving the way for a new era of progress and distinction for the faculty.

Participate in the "UOM Bus-Stop” Design Competition 2024", an exciting opportunity for students at the �������߿� of Moratuwa to showcase their creativity and engineering expertise. Dr. Dinithi Herath, a Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine, �������߿� of Moratuwa, has been honored with the Paediatric Interventional Radiology Scholarship for Member-in-Training 2024. This esteemed award, presented by the Society for Paediatric Interventional Radiology (SPIR), recognizes exceptional potential in the field of pediatric interventional radiology.

Commencing a mutually beneficial collaboration, Union Bank signed a MOU with �������߿� of Moratuwa (UoM) and the National Innovation Agency (NIA) to partner the National entrepreneurship development programme.
